In the last years of the nineteenth century, Professor Auguste Verneuil presented before the Academy of Sciences in Paris a work, carried out in Professor Edmond Frémy’s collaboration, aiming at synthetic creation of ruby crystals ; he invented a blowpipe for that production.
1902 - Professor Auguste Verneuil’s publication on the synthetic production of the ruby by flame fusion.
1903 - Hrand Djevahirdjian, a lapidary set up in Paris, realises the first synthesis of the ruby with the Verneuil process.
1905 - Setting up of the first Djeva shops in Villeurbanne, near Lyon.
1908 - Establishment of the first Djeva plant in the Atlantic Pyrenees, in Arudy.
1914 - Hrand Djevahirdjian decides the setting up of a plant in Monthey, in order to benefit by the large surplus of hydrogen produced by a local chemical firm.
1924 - Hrand Djevahirdjian constitutes the firm a limited company.
1934 - Vahan Djevahirdjian, a chemical engineer in Paris, rejoins his uncle in Monthey to support him.
1947 - On Hrand’s death, Vahan Djevahirdjian takes over the plant.
1960 - Djeva supplies the first special rubies for lasers to the United States. Monthey becomes, during a few years, the meeting place of the laser specialists and participates to the adventure of the Telstar project, America’s first telecommunications satellite.
1976 - Katia Djevahirdjian, chemical engineer and Vahan’s daughter, joins the board of directors.
1992 - Following her father’s death, Katia Djevahirdjian becomes Chairman of the company.
